Farmall M demonstrator toy?

It is my understanding that IH never made a Farmall M demonstrator. Only the Cub, Super A, and C tractors were painted white in Lousiville. I was surprised to find out that my neighbor, who is an avid collector of IH toys, owns a 1/8 scale model of a demonstrator Farmall M painted white! This is an ERTL product. Who can explain this paradox?

Give me some time to run to Wal Mart for some paint. Give me a little more time to apply it, and let it dry. I will then put it on Ebay. Starting bid $10,000.

The way I understand it, Product miniture co. who made the red toy plastic M in the 50s also made a white version to go with the demonstrator program. The reason they used the M to make the white toy was because the M was the only IH tractor toy they were making.

People have seen that antique white toy M and started thinking that because there was a toy, there must have been a real one. So these modern white M toys are actually "toys of toys".

A similar thing happened with the "sprit of 76" cub cadets. The real SO76 was a model 76 Cadet LAWN tractor. But when Ertl made the toy they used the 129 GARDEN tractor casting rather than tooling up a model 76 lawn tractor toy. People that aren"t familiar with the real Cadets vs Cub Cadets wouldn"t know the difference.

There are a lot of models that are made wrong out there, Cars trucks tractors you name it. I have 2 69 Hurst Olds models that are painted all the wrong colors and have the decals in the wrong places. They were suppoesed to be white and gold and not have 442 emblems, but were painted red and blue and have 442 emblems and H/O decals. I guess it is either marketing or just some bozo in china who doesn"t have a clue.

Yep, IH never made a demonstrator M, but the ERTL toy company did, and apparently it was a real money maker for them.

Just wondering how long it will be before we see 1/8 scale demonstrator Super HTA?
