I am restoring a 1962 Farmall 504D, S/N 3712, S-X-Y. I am in the process of fixing all of the issues before painting. Right now I have the remote valves tore down and bead blasted. I am trying Special Purpose Krylon® Farm & Implement Paint, Am. Beauty/Int'l Harvester Red 1818. The finish looks good and has a deep red color. Is this close to the period correct color? I plan to base coat all painted parts with Krylon® and follow with a clear coat (undecided, but open to suggestions). Would this choice paint + quality clear coat produce a fairly durable and fade resistant coating? I have not decided on the white and silver yet. I am thinking of Krylon® Rust Tough® Rust Preventative Enamel, Gloss White RTA9200 and either Aluminum RTA9213 or Silver Metallic RTA9232. I Also I plan to something like POR-15 on any bare surfaces to neutralize any possible rust. This is not a show tractor. But If I go through and repair worn parts and make this a tight machine I want it to look good. I may go to the occasional tractor show or local parade. It will see light-medium use such as box blade, 10' tandem pull disk, bush-hog, flail mower, round baler, square baler, possibly a future 3pt stump grinder, and general loader work (dirt and hay spear). It will be parked indoors most of the time. Thanks for reading, Charles
