Hugh,
Thanks so much for you help and advice. I got the electrical diagrams and found one that matches my unit perfectly. Thank you so much. It is a weird little unit. Haven't started it in a week, expected it to be dead as usual, but it fired right up today. Then after working the drive, parked it and it was dead. I'm getting tired of using the battery charger, so the info should help alot.
By the way, when the battery goes dead or I have to disconnect the batt cables, I always polarize the Gen. But I noticed last week that even with the key off, there is power between those two leads on the voltage regulator. I don't think that is right, and could be part of draining/no charge problem. Anyway, thanks again!

Dave :D

Dave: I'm getting those diagrams scanned, had so many folks asking for them, decided it was easier than mailing. If anyone wants them just e mail me.

For any body that wants them these wiring diagrams are for 140 and the 4 different wiring schematics used during the production run of the 140. It outlines the serial number split at which changes were made. 140 started off in 1958 as 6 volt positive ground with generator, then 12 volt neg ground with generator and push button start, next system had flashers and a neutral starting switch were added and the final 140s had 12 volt neg ground with alternator and key start.

The early diagram is exactly same as 130, 100 and Super A with voltage regulator. These diagrams are very good for anyone wanting to upgrade wiring on any of these tractors.

You need to see what the charging voltage is at the battery when the engine is at 1/2 throttle or better. On a 6 volt system it should be around 7.25vdc on a 12 volt 14.5vdc. Which vehicle is this? BOB M has wiring diagrams for troubleshooting Generator & Regulator problems. If you need it post back I think I have that somewhere. Hal
