Hydraulic Pump and Touch Control Pistons

The 1948 Super A restoration update. I was successful in locating new pistons for the touch control unit and they are on the way!

In the meantime, I rebuilt the pump and had to fabricate a tool for the pump seal. A "seal jumper" tool is required to install the drive shaft through the seal without damaging the seal. We had to dust off the old 1939 South Bend lathe and machine the tool as seen.

Body (sheet metal) work is next! Have fun, Greg

Glad you found the pistons!! My local salvage yard would only sell the entire block.

I haven't started rebuilding my hydraulic block yet, as I've switched to putting the engine back together. Nice to see all those empty boxes of new sleeves, pistons, rings, bearings, etc, start to accumulate in my 'burn' pile!

It sure made sliding the pump assembly back together a breeze. Just make sure you keep the bushings in order, it make a difference going back together (don't ask me how I know).

Have you gone into your steering box yet? I have the CR seal numbers for the sector shaft and steering shaft. If you buy them locally, you'll save quite a bit over the same thing from Case/IHC. The new seals are thin enough you can use two of them for a "double" seal on the shafts.
