Installed a "salvage" 300 pump, got it all together runs great (after I finally got it timed right). Filled the reservoir and put a cup of hydraulic fluid into primeing hole on pump. No pressuer. Ran the engine while filling resevoir, turned engine over by hand to ensure pump was full. What next - don't say another pump!! Is there a place to "bleed the hydraulics"? How do you get all the lines empty of air and the cylinders full of fluid? Appreciate any words of wisdom. Dick Davis

I do not believe there is any priming hole on those pumps. There should be a check valve in that hole consisting of a spring and ball. If these are missing the oil will bypass inside the pump and no oil pressure will be created.

If the pump is working/pumping fluid, you should hear a bit of whine from it. Also, you should be able to put your hands on the lines to and from the pump and "feel" the fluid going through.

If you don't have cylinders hooked up to the remotes, the engine should pull down a bit when you cycle them...

Another idea if you don't have cylinders - take a hose and make a loop from one outlet to the other on a remote so the fluid can just make the loop through.

I have a feeling that fluid at the priming plug doesn't necessarily mean the pump is working... did you try a bit of pressure in the reservoir? Needs to be running when you pressurize so the pump sucks the oil.

My trick for priming a pump is to pressurize the reservoir... not too much or you will blow seals out. The air compressor is a handy-dandy tool!

Once you have the pump primed, just cycle the levers back and forth to get the air out of the lines and cylinders.

Steve Thanks for the reply. I did maneuver the levers for about 3-5 minutes with no progress! Then I shut the engine off and removed the prime plug in the pump and fluid poured out - so I assumed that the pump had a fluid source -- but still no presssure. Anyother ideas? I do appreciate your help. Dick

Finally got some movement of the 3 point, very slow but is gradually getting faster. Sure acts as if there is air in all the lines and the fluid isn't getting past very quickly. The system doesn't whine like others I've been around nor do the pump/lines get hot in operation as other have. Appreciate the assistance, Dick Davis
