I'm just wondering what years did they put the shift pattern casted right on the deck of farmall H's. Also the shift pattern is 4 foward and reverse. The pattern is the same except it dosent show the 5th gear. Do all the 39's have this pattern on the deck, are there ones that show fifth gear? Thanks for any info. this tractor is a early 1940 H

The fifth gear is there, just locked out. There is a long capscrew in the transmission cover which if it is replaced with a shorter one allows you to select fifth gear

Casting dates on my 40 H are March, April of 40. There is no shift pattern on the top casting on mine.

from what Ive seen the 39's and early 40's had the pattern cast into the deck. I thought it was stopped when they went away from the notched platform for the 39 seat but seen that one listed that you are talking about and it was after they did the changes. 1-4 would be for steel wheels and 1-5 would have the road gear for rubber
