You need a bit of skill, a bit of time, and a bit of money. I believe I have around $500 in my complete system, using all NEW parts - including power steering.

1. You need the right H. It has to have been made after mid-1950, or it doesn't have the right front engine plate or the upgraded timing gears to handle a live pump. Live pumps won't fit on older Hs without changing the front engine cover and timing gears.

2. You need a live pump for a Super H, 300, 350 (gas). These cost about $600 new. Used pumps are less expensive, but they are not rebuildable if you get a bad one.

3. You need a reservoir. Many people disconnect the stock belly pump and use it as a live reservoir. It only holds 6 quarts of oil, though.

4. You need a hydraulic valve.
5. You need a pair of hydraulic quick-connects.

6. You need hoses to hook it all up.

Mkirsh, I have seen this topic here countless times and I guess it will never be settled as long as there are still two H's left. I put a live pump on my 41 H about 1968, did not change any gears or cover, two bolt holes match, drilled and threaded a third hole and made a simple clamp for the fourth. It has run hyd. motors, a Dacon reel type rock picker, a 2001 loader along with many other jobs, totaling several hundred hours each year since. I used the transmission as a resivoir. I have done absolutely no repairs to it in all those years. So I guess I am here to say it foolish to change the cover or gear. Chuck

M&W did make live pumps for the H and M models.

The one for a H is somewhat hard to find. It will work on both a H & Super H.

You can use the orginal cam gear with one of these pumps, BUT if you do remember that you CANNOT deadhead or bottom out the pump. If the pump is deadheaded or bottomed out there is a chance that the cam gear could fail.

I had a company named Hi-Low rebuild one a few years ago. If I remember right it cost about 175 to have it rebuilt.

The pump for the H model has 24 teeth on the drive gear, and the pump for the M has 27 teeth on the drive gear.

Sometimes "Steel Wheel Ranch" has these, I don't know how much they sell them for.

The M&W Live pump pictured bellow is for a M, but the one for a H looks the same. The difference in them is in the number of teeth on the drive gear and the bolt pattern.
