I am getting new rears for my 574. The ones I have now are almost slicks. When pricing the tires I got a wide range of prices and never really got many straight answers but recieved alot of depending on this and that.
I am getting 14.9x28. They should hold about 55 gal of fluid. Fluid is 3.00 a gal, cost 57.00 per tire for install and he priced me firestones at around 280.00 each. Though the tires were cheap, and the fluid expensive.
Does this all sound about right and what brand of tire would everyone recomend?
Jeff

JT, a buffed tire (per tiretown's website) is a tire that has had the brand name removed with a buffing wheel. The tires are blemished and while they're probably perfectly fine, removing the brand name removes all liability from the manufacturer should something go horribly wrong.

Mike, windshield washer fluid is about $1.00 a gallon at Wal Mart.

If you can buy a Firestone 6 ply Super All Trac for $280.00, you better go get them before they change their mind. That is below my cost as a dealer. The closest I have to that price is Alliance 8 ply for about $278.44.

Keith,
What do you know about these people? What is a buffed tire. They got some unheard of pricing, almost like they are some Chinese tires or something.

Ya, I am a bit concerned about the quoted price and am going to stop in in person and get it in writing.
It is going to run around 1000 bucks for 2 tires and fluid..... UGH

What are they using for fluid, gasoline?

The fluid should be just water with a little calcium chloride mixed in to prevent freezing.

It's gonna take probably a sack and a half per side. If it were $12 a bag that would be $36 and installation should be worth something? I think calcium chloride was $4 - $6 30 years ago, surely it has gone up. I know the cost of stock salt and mineral has doubled just in the last year due to transportation costs.

Id say get em before they go up more. I was pricing out 14.9x24s for our 340U and cheapest I found for Firestones was $335 per tire.
