just wondering if anyone knows anything about the farmall 504 high clearence that came from Chisholm-Ryder. My tractor has the yellow pauint underneath the farmall red. It does not have a hitch or pto. How rare are these? does anyone know if u can get the chisholm ryder paint anywhere or what it is comparable too? The tractor is in great shape just gonna gonna rebuild the carb and spary with it this summer has 200 gallon mounted tank on back and 2 15 foot sprayer booms in the front, great tin no dents, barely any rust, and only 1,700 hours. Is it too valuable to keep spraying with? any info about this tractor would be great as i am just getting into farming(20 years old0

presuming that the geneva in your name is the geneva in ny, i bought a 240 up your way, that had been a c-r bean picker in its first life. it had no badges at all, no fast hitch, and 3 hyd valves. it had been painted red, but the yellow underneath was showing through where the red flaked. there was no evidence of any green paint anywhere.

thanks for the information. Mine is also flaking revealing the C-R colors. In ur opinion what do i think the C-R color is closest to, john deere yellow? cat yellow? just wondering because i cant pick up a gallon of chisholm-ryder yellow at tractor supply lol.

As I stated elsewhere it was a kind of greenish yellow or yellowish green. Probably about like a 50% mix of JD green and JD yellow although I have never tried this.

there are some common shades of industrial or "cat" yellow that seem greenish or tan. or school bus yellow...does this help? maybe even a shade from the late MMs. I have not seen the CR machines in my life so could not pin point it for you.
maybe someone that knows would be willing to goto a paint aisle and send a card with the right color identified on it?

if painting it for work, paint it any color, even purple... ;)
if for all (judged) show, either all IH red scheme or as it was as a C R.

if it's for mostly work and some fun showing (maybe the correct word is sharing), i'd do a paint scheme that hints at its past and honors the IH colors at the same time. simple would be red engine, CR color sheet metal. complicated would be CR colors, with a peel away effect showing the IH in critical spots such as near the model badge (think of the incredible hulk's torn clothes).

thank you for the advice i like ur idea of the fading scheme but i think i will go witht he easier c-r tin and leave the engine the nice farmall red. Do you also have an opinion of what original c-r yellow is most closest to at a common tractor supply store?

Those C-R machines used to be quite common here (western NY) - they were the basis for string bean pickers. They did not have 3 pt hitches - I don't recall whether they had a PTO.

There's several still kicking around here in western NY. A couple continue earning their keep as a spray rigs. Another turns up occasionally some of the local shows every summer.

----

Don't know what the "correct" paint is for the C-R equipment. But to my eye it looks about the same as the yellow-green Euclid used on their earthmoving equiment of the that era.

I'd be inclined to paint it in C-R colors myself. It's somewhat unusual from the same old IHC red we ordinarly see on Farmall equipment. And it looks good besides.

Unsure about CR decals. I do nowever recall "Chisholm-Ryder" in very large, semi-script letters on the hood sides.

Most of the bean picker F 504 HC's I have seen were ordered without IPTO and without rockshaft and 3 point hitch. They were equipped with a 17 gpm hydraulic pump and three remote valves. If you want to make your tractor more versitile, you can remove the gearbox from the pto location and replace it with a IPTO from another 504. If you want to add a 3 point hitch the easest way would be to add a aftermarket 3 point hitch. If you want to add the IH hitch you would need another top with all of the internal components and rockshaft as well as a hitch. If you want to make it Chisholm Ryder green, I'm sure somebody can come up with a color match. The F 504 HC makes an excellent high clear sprayer. We sold three new F 504 HC's new just for that purpose.

They were kind of a greenish yellow or yelloish green as I can best describe color. Not sure about decals but I think the Farmall badges were still in place.
