I just brought home an older international 450.

It sounds like it is missing one cyl. for about the first 20 min. after I switch it over to deisel fuel. Then it smooths out.

Any ideas or known problems?

I am thinking it might be exhaust valve because the muffler is showning sings of raw fuel .

Take it over and fill it up with clean fuel, hook it to the biggest load you can find, pull the throttle wide open an pull the snot out of it for an hour or so...hard as you can.
Bring her back and let her idle for about 5-10 minutes to cool down.
Go grab a bite to eat and a Dr. Pepper to wash it down.
Come back and start it up...bet you see a big difference.
That ole hoss wants to work, if you let it loaf it don't like that.
If you are too soft on it it will slobber out the stack and start to run rough.
Work it hard, it will love you for it.
Just my 2 cents.....

If it makes puffs of white smoke while this happens, it may be low compression on that cylinder that takes time and engine heat to get it up to the point of running. Find out which cylinder it is by loosening injector lines one at a time while it is running, then tightening them, to find the offending cylinder. When found, take (gasoline side) compression readings to see if there is low compression on that hole.
If so, it will take a rebuild to get it fixed. If it is valves, the situation would not get better.
It could be sticking valves, but those often make a lot of noise, and can cause pushrods to come off, or get bent. (less likely)
A bad injector can also cause poor cold operation. Switch the injectors from one hole to another and if the miss follows, it needs to be serviced, or replaced. Good luck, JimN
