I got a new IH temp gauge for my 450. Thinking I could just insert the new prong into the old nut in the block, Stupid Me what was I thinking it would be that easy. Went to take out old nut it sheared off at the block with maybe 1 1/2 theads sticking out.It is not threaded on the inside for easy out. Can I take a hack saw blade and carefuly cut it out? The old nut is very thin. The new one is twice as thick.

If there is still that much sticking out, would it work to stick a bolt into it and clamp on with a Vice-Grip?

Cut it part way w/hack saw blade, but not so far that you run too far into the threads, use a fine punch or chisel to collapse what is left of the nut on both sides of your cut, take a needle nose, grab one of the "ears" that you have built & screw the nut out. (Sometimes before you get the second ear "built", whats left of the nut will fall out.) Clean up the threads & screw the new nut in. I'd cut as close to the longest part of what's left of the nut as possible, so you have someting to start the chisel on. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

I'd probably use a small chisel or a punch sharpened on one side. If it is thin like a pipe fitting it should come out easy enough.
