I'm just looking for a planter to plant some sweet corn. I have 1.5 achers that i want to make a corn patch out of. I have been just mowing the hay that has been growing there from the previous owner. I have a 50 MD,51 M ,43H 44H 53 super H and a 1940 A. Any idea's on a I.H model and how much should i be looking to spend? I also am looking for a plow and disk.

IH model in a two row 249 or 250. the 249 is a simple drill corn planter of the plate type variety. the 250, also plate type, can do power hill drop, drilling, or check row...

Your MD or M would handle a 4-row IH 400 Cyclo Air planter... I ran our 6-row on the Super MTA one year. Should be able to find a decent one under $1000 if you want something modern...

What part of the country are you in? This is what I do for my corn . I work the ground Up with my discs, then I broad cast the corn go over it with the discs and it usally takes pretty good. If I want rows I cultivate with the cub. I wish I could find a corn planter for my cub here in NY cheap my self. You could also see if there is a farmer in the area that can run his no till over it with your seed also a sprayer with some round up first would be great. JON

A number 456 planter is a good and reliable machine, also quite simple to adjust and operate. 4-row wide units can be had quite cheaply, depending on where you live. In Minnesota, these sell typically for about $100 to 300. Plates are fairly easy to find, at least in this area, as so many were used. They were built in the 1960's, mainly.
