Hello, In need a little information please,
I just put a T.A. in my early 806, and everything is working just fine. The shifting is better than it ever was, with no problems. Now the Question: While cleaning up the shop, I was pouring out the Hyd fluid from the filter housing, into the used oil barrel, and I found a broken 3/16" coiled pin, about 1/2" long, in the buckett. Looking at IH parts online, there is mention of a pin that size in the range transmission. but it gives no referance to it's location. It looks to be possibly holding the shifting arm in the cam plate?? but that is just my guess. Just when I thought I was all finished, I find this mystery broken pin!!! I did try to gently pry up on the shift arm with a screw driver and it came up easily about 3/8"

I'm thinking I will have to pull the range top cover/side inspection cover, and look for the problem??? Anybody experence this before?? any suggestions.
Thank You

I would say that that is where it came from . As when they get slamed around because of the clutch and dump valve being out of adjustment it works on the shifter leverand the keyway and the pin will shear off and you will now have a three pice pin , sometimes one pice will fall out of one side and some time both outer pies will fall out leaving the one pice still in the shifter . Usually you will also need to do some repair work to the reverse shift lever as the keyway will be starting to get loose as well . So if you have never done this before and extra set of hand will help when tearing down and going back together . Also while you have the ranger top cover off NOW would be a good time to upgrade the park loc to the NEW style that is used on the 86 seires , LOT SAFER.

Thanks Dan,
I was hoping you would reply.
I finally got around to putting in the H.D.TA, from Hy capicity as well as the mcv spring kit, bearings and other things as you suggested a few years ago when we talked on the phone. It just took me time to get around to it. The TA was origional, and the high side clutches were worn badly yet it did not slip but the sprag was giving up.
the delivery sleeve was grooved where the seal rings ride,as well as the inner spring on the pressure regulator in the mcv was missing, all contributing to low pressure. I was hesitant to go with the 20/53 tooth Ta in place of the origional 22/51 tooth, figgering it would give me less power, when shifted down in ta,-- but that is all they offered and is the "upgrade" they say, what are your thoughts on this??
Again THANKS!!

Well you were right as usual :^)
The woodruff key was worn just enough to put the strain on the coiled pin. and it broke in 3 pieces, and I found all 3 :^)
The coiled pin ain't designed to do the turning as you know, the woodruff key does that. I noticed they put clearance in the cam, coiled pin bore, to compensate for a little wear in the key.
But they didn't plan of fellers Jammin gears. Ok, I will check pressures!!
I think I'll just bore & tap the center of the "O" ringed plug to 1/8 pipe, and then It will always be there for a future pressure check by just removing the little pipe plug and "put the gauges on er"
Again Thanks!!!

Yea , it's not really and up grade as from time to time when the T/A come ya get the other gear but i have found it not to be a problem and you will never notice . Now the big thing is that DID you set the MCV pressure to 245 to 265 . Some times ya have to do a little spring grinding to get it wright SO it is best to put a gauge in the bottom and check it. I get to split my 806 here in a bit as the PTO input took a dump last fall while grinding feed plus one of the damper springs in the clutch disc went into a few extra pices and was locking the pressure plat from time to time . I am sure it was that one FULL silage wagon on that one hill that did the clutch in . As to keep it from washing they poured concret in the ruts and never leveled it and it was like running over bolders . Plus Eugene stuffed that wagon FULL and i do mean full . We now have three BIG H/S rear unload silage wagons and at 3/4 full ya have over 10 ton plus the weight of the wagons . Coming up that hill she got jerking real bad and ya did not dare back out as if ya did you would have never held it and i doubt that even with the 706 hooked to the ft we would have been able to break it off the hill . after that the clutch just acted funny and i told Eugene that her days were numbered . We had three tractor pullen loads out that day one of the neighbor kids had been helping with his new toy a 1066 but he left to go milk as he would bring out the fuller wagons . My 806 could handle ones that were 3/4 full and the 706 since the tires are not loaded can get away with 2/3 full .
