The old F504D is operational once again... Some Gremlins left to repair/replace, but other than that, useable. Hydraulics are weak, but that was covered a few days ago. Enjoy the pics and can anyone identify the object on the rear of the F504D?

Some of ya'll were close, some right... Most people that have seen it think it is a tiller or a clod-beater. Actually it is a Mott 88" Hammer Knife Mower, AKA a "Flail Mower". It looks rough but it has new bearings and knives. It cuts like a hybrid between a bushhog with sharp blades and a finishing mower. I have the coarse blades on it, which leave a slight "tepee" effect. There are fine knives that will rival finishing mowers. Have not burried if down in tall stuff yet, I may not have enough grunt. Alamo (bought out Mott) recommends 51HP, I have 48HP. I am going to practice preping and painting this before I tackle the tractor. Gotta see how my paint gun works out. Thanks participating in the "quiz".

I plan to build a hydraulic grapple to mount onto the bucket for moving brush. I am getting my 50 acres cleared this summer and a grapple would be nice to slean up the windrows after I burn them. The bucket is fairly HD for this size loader, I think the bucket is close to 500 or 600 lbs (6ft), I would have to look at the specs.

As for potato country, I do not think so. Some farmers quit row cropping and are growing sweet potatos (yams) and doing well. Mostly we have corn, beans, cotton, milo (sorguhm), wheat, some oats, and cattle in my area of Northwest Louisiana. South Louisiana has sugar cane and rice.

Charles; Thats a nice cutting mower. Just remember 1. Keep the roller on the ground you'll get a better cut. In tall weeds or small brush slow the ground speed don't lift the mower and #2. If you try to mow over stumps you will likely break some teeth (cutters)

Charles, that looks like a roto beater, used to flail potato tops and roll the tops of the hills to kill the plant stalks. This process is done after spraying. Are you in potato country?

Have they changed those beaters from chains to blades on the vine beaters?

Been a number of years since I last beat tater vines. :>(

I've always like the looks of those Koyker loaders. Just plain like 'em.

'Course, I'd have to have one about twice that size in order to move big round bales.

Saw a 510 with a 4-tooth grapple last spring. Looked to be a nice unit. Trouble was, they wanted $7K for the derned thing..... .....

Will that tractor pull that roto-tiller?
