my 230 had a oil pressure drop all of a sudden went from foury psi ,cold to less that twenty ,cold on new oil and down to nuthin when hot pulled the pan and the bottom gastet was blown out in two places . i can deal with that but this is what im not sure about there seems to be a lot of slop in the gear and long shaft i can move the gears apart quit a bit. In an exploded photo i dont see any bushing to replace to get rit of part of the slop . heck i dunno might be makin mountains out of mole hills what ya think

The glass is a flat surface for the sandpaper. I made a few light passes with 80 grit to see where the low spots were. Once they started showing marks, I switched to 320. Keep at it until the plate is a uniform color. Clean well. I torqued the bolts to 20 ft.lb.

Sounds like your oil pump is worn. If you believe your oil pressure gauge and you really had 40 psi before, that's adequate. Flatten the cover and put a new gasket in it.
