Who got snow? At least 8 inches here, wet sticky stuff. And I just took the studded tires off the truck Monday!

Eastern Iowa is expecting another 1" or so tonight, I don't think the SM can take anymore, at least I can't! Were only one inch away from our record, might as well break it. -David Goode Coggon, IA

I use to run studed tires until they outlawed them here in MD. The Post Office still use them. Here's an article on retractable studded tires. Hal
PS: It was in today's paper.

Look at those tires. The studs are down in the grooves! Regular studded tires have holes in the gripping cleats that the studs are drilled into. Looks like a whacky la la land deal to me. I run 4 mud tires with studs on a Geo Tracker 4WD 16V wagon, and it will go ANYWHERE in snow or ice. On the way back from town today, the Sherrif was in the ditch in a Tahoe. Three vehicles stuck on the road trying to get by, I went down in the ditch, around them all and waved goodbye. Pulled two Tahos, deer hunters, out of the snow on my property this year. Two similar tires on a V-6 2wd 150 Ford shortbed and with weight it does as well as 4wd. Then the Ram 2500 4wd CTD can sit inside all winter.

We just got 2 3/4" of rain. All the ponds and lakes are running over, creeks all out. Can't hardly walk over the pastures without sinking in to your ankles. Rather have that than too dry.

Just got in from feeding this morning. Got the big 4x4 green tractor stuck once and a pickup stuck a couple times busting drifts. The wind was blowing the snow so hard you couldn't see to tell where the deep stuff was in the hills. They reported 15 inches about 20 miles south of us in Thedford NE, we probably have about the same here. Starting to clear off now though and the highway's melting off pretty fast.

Like Cowman said, good thing it's warm! We're pretty much done calving, about 40 left out of around 650 head still to go...didn't have any cattle problems from this storm except getting around to feed 'em. Supposed to be in the high 60's by Sunday, so the water's gonna be running! Glad we live in the Sandhills and not someplace where there's gumbo mud!!!

50 miles west of Pierre we got only about 1 inch of snow. Were supposed to get MUCH more. We were WANTING it. Most stock dams are dry or have very little water, no subsoil moisture. We would gladly have taken what you are getting!!!

i am thinking of having a plow day this spring. We are going to plant oats with a couple of team of horses. And of coarse with tractors. We thrashed last year and would like to do it again, if the fields would ever dry up, so we can get some seed in the ground.

Oh yeah. But at least it ain't cold. Here is a pic I snapped last nite. Yearlings went out the gate while I was putting out straw. This morning they are all bedded down out of the wind.

Yeah, they got 5-6 lbs of ear corn all winter. That and grass hay will really grow them. I'm switching them over to alfalfa now and will go to grass May 1st

Hate to brag but it"s sunny and got close to 90 yesterday down here. I"m glad we don"t have to deal with that. Cold is cold anyway you look at it.
