My '44 A steering knuckles each have one small hole near the bottom. Located on the other side of the knuckle opposite the wheel bearings. I have cleaned them out and do not see threads. I tried to install a grease zerk just in case my vision was no good and they would not fit. Can someone tell me what they are for? My IT Manual does not tell what they are. Thanks everyone, Larry.

You mean the spindles. That was for centering the assy while it was put into the lathe or grinder that finished the bearing journals and threads for the nut would be my thinking as i have seen them also.

Well from what you say it sounds like where the roll pin goes that holds it to the steering shaft

The IT Manual refers to that part as the knuckle. It slides up into the axle and is held with the knuckle arm. It"s nowhere near the steering shaft, it"s on the outer ends of the axle. Gene may be on the right track when he says it may be where it was held by the lathe. Just thought I would ask, did not know if it was something I need to tend to. Thanks old and Gene. If anyone else has any ideas, please let us know. Larry
