Farmall Super C thermostat question

When putting a new thermostat in a Super C (and later model C's with thermostats), when you set the thermostat down onto the boss in the water neck, and then put the snap ring in above it, there is a pretty good gap there. I'm sure there's nothing else missing.. so I guess water pressure pushes it up against that snap ring and seals it off when running. Is this correct?

I got a strip of thin brass at the hardware store, cut it to size - 5/16" X 6", and bent it to fit.

The thermostat looks like a regular automotive one.

Another option is to use a nice thick "O"ring to space it. JimN

There is supposed to be a spacer in there to hold the thermostat up against the snap ring. The original thermostat was a bellows type that used all of the space but when you change to an automotive type you need the spacer. You can purchase the spacer at any CaseIH dealer.

Where can you get a new Thermostat?
