just bought a 460 industrial gas with t/a. tested it the other day and no problems. brought it home today and started to play... put some dirt in the loader and dumped it (started to get stuck in the mud). went to leave, put it 2nd and left.....

stopped and put it in 4th or 5th... let the clutch out and the engine dropped a little/ bogged and i just sat there. did not smell a clutch or anything like that.... any idea????? ?

trans, clutch, t/a????

put it back into 3rd and it pulled just fine.

starting to feel like i might have screwed up by buying it!

thanks for the help!!!!

Did you have the TA lever back in the low side?It could be the TA low side which is the spraq slipping.

i dont think it was getting use to the tractor... i let the clutch out and it bogged a little, the engine picked back up, and i just sat there. tires did not move.

Then it sounds like your clutch is slipping. You can first check the clearance between the pedal and the stop. On the industrial, I don"t have the figure, on the row crop it is about an inch (not exact without looking it up) but if yours has virtually no clearance the linkage needs to be adjusted. You can first try that. The TA and and clutch are supposed to be adjusted at the same time -- that is a lengthly procedure that you really need a manual for, or someone else can give a lengthly explanation. If those adjustments don"t work, IMO you need a new clutch. But it should slip in any gear. Put it under load in 1st or 2nd and see if it slips.

the t/a was on the hi side. i tried it under load. had it in first with the loader stuck into a big mound of dirt. it was wet out, but the tires just dug and dug.... or rather spun and spun....

thanks for the help so far!!!

5th is the lower right, 4th directly above it. 5th is direct drive, no gear reduction. The clutch has to be let out slowly or it will bog or die. If the other gears are ok, you are fine -- just not used to the tractor.
