The bolts that go through the center of the tube to index the front end spacing are stuck good. I got the clamp bolts out and the lower part of the clamp came off with a good whack, but these bolts are really stuck. Any ideas? I whacked one from the bottom enough to upset the end (had to cut that part off), and I heated both ends up red hot and let them cool, hoping that would loosen their death grip, but that didn't work, either. Is the inner axle tube solid or hollow? If it's solid, I guess they aren't coming out, are they? I might torch the ends off enough to get the axle to slide out, then just use new bolts and leave the old ones in there. any suggestions?

So, is rust welding the big problem here? Maybe a large electrolysis tank is needed. DO I need a 340 specific axle, or did they use this assembly on other models?

This is a "before" photo of my 340U right after I bought it. As you can see, the adjustable front axle (hollow) had been set to it's widest postition, so I had to do something. I was able to remove the bolts and clamps with heat, penetrant, and a sledge. But everything I tried to move the axles failed. The angled design complicates everything. I even modified a couple lengths of I beam to slide over the dog legs, and used two 25 ton hydraulic bottle jacks, one on either side, to put pressure on it while I heated the outer axle cherry red with a rosebud tip, and it wouldn't budge. I finally bought a replacement axle from J.P. Tractor Salvage in MO. They told me they are sometimes successful as shown in another post by pulling them between tractors with lots of heat. But it's a 50-50 shot. Still have the lengths of I beam if you're close enough and want to try it, and the old axle if anyone wants it.

You could also try heating the bolts red hot and dosing them with water right away, sometimes the shock from sudden temp change will break em right apart. At least it usually works for us up at school, might have to do it a couple times though.

And the axle tube is hollow.
