We're making progress! We cleaned, washed with metal prep, solvent, and primed the tractor and sub-assemblies yesterday. Today we'll sand and shoot it with a sealer and then we'll be ready to put some red on her.

Greg: Looking good, great progress since the last time I saw A photo. I see you have the pto lever installed. I didn't have when I was at that stage, you guessed it, when all done my pto lever was not installed or painted. Turned out a different shade, but at least it's not very prominant.

If you are using primer and paint from the same company, you usually do not need a sealer, unless the instructions say so.

I see no reason to use sealer on that. Just scuff the primer with a Scotch Brite pad Blow it off and use a tack rag. Paint.

Mark, perhaps you're right. An auto body man recommended using a sealer, but maybe that's a step that I shouldn't worry about for this application. It would save a lot of time and $s.

Sealers have kind of fallen out of favor with "modern" paints. Acrylic laquer, which you are not using, sometimes required one. Certain DuPont processes still recommend one. Although sealer goes on easily, it is just one more place to mess up. What kind of primer is that -- if it happens to be epoxy, it is non-sandable. Has to be scuffed and reapplied if outside the window.
