I do the same thing that DCW does works just fine for me. A base coat/clear coat finish can get expensive!

Acrylic enamel or acrylic urethane, for best results use two stage or base coat/clear coat like on the current cars. Source is PPG/DuPont/Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour/NAPA/Valspar or any major paint company. You won't find it at Case-IH or farm stores. $$$. IH red came in four shades --- . For good results use Case-IH 2150, it is shiny enough if you don't want to spend a lot of money.

Here's what I used,in fact,I just painted my Super M.I bought my paint directly from Case IH,in this case Federal Yellow, but I get the red fromthe same source, then add Pro-Form Wet-Look hardener, part# PF599,from Carquest.

The paint at the dealer set me back $63 a gallon, and the hardener was $21 a pint.I got 2 gallons of paint, but really only needed one.

For me,the dealer is the cheapest source of paint, and its simple acrylic enamel, all you need.

I did the H I had with it,it never looked that good from the factory.

2150 is "acrylic modified" ALKYD enamel, an improved version of the original alkyd enamel which appeared in the 30's. It has some acrylic properties including UV inhibitors to slow fading. Not quite as good as acrylic enamel, but usually good enough. Haven't checked the price in a long time and have never used it, I thought it was less than $50. The price is approaching that of true acrylic enamel, apparantly.

I forgot you said federal yellow -- I imagine that is the same formulation as 2150, but may not be. If it was made by Valspar, they make about every formulation of paint.
