I am referring to the new generation of McCormicks.

How did they come to be and when?

Was there some kind of an agreement with CaseIH and McCormick, or is McCormick a breed of there own?

Gary

CaseIH also sells a New line of Farmall compact tractors , the line of who owns what gets muddy.

They did not make the moden McCormick tractors at Doncaster, they only put them together and now they are mooving the assembly line to Italy. I went round the plant three years ago and all the components apart from the engines came from France and Italy so it was a matter of time before they mooved the plant to Europe. If i can find any more infomation i will let you know. MJ

When CaseIH merged with New Holland, to form Case New Holland (CNH), CaseIH had to give up the McCormick name, details likely on the site Jim provided. I believe they are made at the Doncaster plant in England, the old IH plant -- Probably still similarities between them and some of the CaseIH tractors, or at least there used to be. Locally McCormicks are sold by the New Holland Dealer the CaseIH dealer doesn't have them.

The way I understand it, when J.I. Case and International Harvester merged, the trademark "McCormick", as well as the trademark "Cub Cadet" were not a part of the legal agreement, and thus the trademarks were not renewed. This left both of those well known and respected names up for grabs. MTD grabbed the Cub Cadet name, and New Holland? grabbed McCormick. But since Case-IH and New Holland are under the same corporate name, it gets confusing.

I believe that the CaseIH can sell them, just like ours sells a lot of implements not made by CaseIH, if they can get the franchise, but far as I know McCormick tractors are sold by an entirely separate company.

A brief explanation from the site Jim provided:

1999 Case seek a merger with New Holland, Shareholders agree and new company becomes Case New Holland Global N.V. (CNH)

E.U. regulatory authorities rubber stamp merger, providing that CNH divest themselves of the Doncaster Wheatley Hall Road plant and the 50 to 100hp C,CX and MXC tractors it produces along with the MX Maxxum production and engineering know how. 2000 After negotiations with various interested parties, the plant is purchased by “ARGO S.p.a” of Italy and it is announced that the Doncaster plant will become the global headquarters for McCORMICK TRACTORS INTERNATIONAL LTD.

Products from Doncaster will be sold world wide under the McCORMICK brand name.

Other sister companies under the ARGO name are:-
LANDINI
LAVERDA
VALPADANA
PEGORARO
