Governor problems? on Cub

My Cub had been doing pretty good until I cranked it up yesterday. All of a sudden, it started "revving" in short spurts. You can see the governor linkage move when it does it. I held the linkage rod to the governor, and it's pretty hard to stop this from happening when it does it. It just started "out of the blue". The governor has never really had any spring tension on it, but in never did this before, and always had a consistant throttle. Any ideas? Thanks Once again, Farmalls don't like me.

Most likely however it's a lean carb idle mix. Try running the engine and when it begins to surge VERY slowly pull out the choke. If you find a choke setting where the surging stops it's either the idle mix adjustment or a vacuum leak.

Now with the engine warmed up and idling slowly turn the idle mixture screw in or out 1/4 turn at a time until the surging stops (you may need to reset the idle stop screw afterward to slow the idle back down).

If you can't cure the surging with the there's probably a bit of junk (rust, etc) plugging the idle jet. Time to go inside the carb for a cleaning.

Sounds like you picked something up in your (dirt rust or etc) Split it and give it a good cleaning, and blowing out and should be good to go.
