Hooked my 54 Super H to the drag today to getter good and hot. Motor has been rebuilt as well as pretty much every thing else front to back.

A few problems showed themselves. The high priced temp gauge I bought from OEM died after 15 minutes. Also two small oil leaks and the high priced jap altinator has a whine. Other than those issues it ran strong and purred like a kitten at idle after an hour of work.

Not a GREEN baler!!!

Nice looking H - does the drag really pull hard enough to make it work?

I know when I rebuilt my H, there were plenty of oil leaks (still are) but at least my high-priced gauges still work - even if they aren't correct for a '42 model.

Nice pictures.

OEM gets over $72 for that gage. Valu-Bilt.com has same gage for 27.49

I bought the gauges from OEM'S ebay auctions. I think I payed $80 for a three gauge set. I'am going to give them a call and see if I can get them to send me a new one, probally wishfull thinking...

I dunno, Gordo. They sent me the wrong oil gauge once. Sent the one with the studs and bracket (like yours) instead of the straight thread-in I needed for my BN.

They sent me the correct one and told me not to bother about sending the wrong one back.

That's how I came by the one I sent to MikeCA.

Short story, they've been real good to deal with in my experience.

I live in SE MN in the rolling hills. Lots of hills and valleys and trees. I took the pictures on top of a hill to make it look flat. The feild is concidered highly erodiable by the FSA like most of the land I farm. The only rock I have is the ocasional limestone ridge.

Heres a picture from last summer that better shows the lay of the land.

A naked H is still beautiful. Try putting your hand (safely) against the side of the alternator when whining. If that reduces the noise, superglueing a modest piece of silicon rubber to the inside face might reduce the noise. Welding another rear support to the main bracket that is located where the rear lower mount on the alt is located (eliminating the all thread spanning the gap) will also reduce harmonic vibration. Have them send you a new gauge in the mail and tell them you will let us know how well you were treated, by their rapid response, on this site. JimN
