Super M clutch shaft/tractor split

I'm trying to remove the clutch shaft to replace the clutch release parts. Stage II Super M. (Either bearing carrier or drive shaft yoke got loose and tore up the carrier and sleeve, and maybe bent the shaft.) Every manual says it is possible to remove the shaft without splitting the tractor.

Well, I"ve tried everything I can think of: loosened the PP assembly, tried pulling the input shaft flange off (can"t pull it far enough forward), loosened up the front bearing assembly. I cannot find the clearance to pull the shaft out.

Anyway, Ive pretty much decided that I"ll have to split but I thought I"d run by you guys to see if there are any suggestions for me.

If nothing else, it"ll be good practice for a 560 split I have coming up.

I went through the same thing about a month ago!
You can get the parts out except for the PP. Do like Jim is saying to compress the springs on the PP. You'll have to have it fully compressed. Then work it back from the recess in the flywheel and once you can get it cockeyed in there you can work the clutch shaft out.

Be ready though! When mine finally came out it fell and hit me right in the throat!

You can then get the clutch disk out; there is barely enough room for it to slip out. The PP won't come out without splitting.

Once the clutch shaft is out you can move the pressure plate back forward and have plenty of room to get the input shaft flange off if you need to.

It's frustrating at first because it looks like you can just slide the clutch shaft back or input shaft flange forward but there's just not enough room!

On a S/M it must be SPLIT to remove the clutch on a stright M you can do a clutch job with out spliting as the clutch is one inch smaller . as for me i always Split a tractor and grid the flywheel never needed a come back and did not want anybody crying about clutch chatter.

I think he is just trying to fix the release parts W/O replacing the disk. Which will work. JimN

Still since i don't work well on my back i still split them . Get me on my back trying to work on something and anything over 15 min. i get sick dizzy and want to toss my lunch .

Yep, I'm just looking to replace the release parts (one nub broke off the throwout bearing sleeve and a mounting ear broke off the carrier). I'll take a look at the PP in the morning and try Jim's idea. For what it's worth it's a Rockford PP.

Tighten the PP bolts, then take out three of them equaly around (120 degrees apart)use the three to screw into the rear of the PP where there are three holes of correct thread. these bolts release the PP clamping force from the FW. this allows the pp to be quite forward, while being released. With this, and the removal of the components of the drive coupling, the wiggle room is there. Good luck, JimN

My manual also said you could do it without splitting it. I never figuired out how. I wound up splitting it. Be very careful if it is a narrow front, mine fell over.
