i'm putting my rebuilt M engine back together and wandered how to prime my oil pump, is this done before or after its in the engine. Thanks

Pull the spark plugs and spin the motor over until oil comes out the rocker shaft. Do this in 15 second bursts to avoid over heating the starter. The pump will self prime as its below the oil level in the pan.

Do as El Toro indicates, To go beyond the oil pump only, use a squirt/pump oil can to fill the galleries into the oil pressure gauge hole. (several cans may be needed to fill filter and all passages. but it is cheap, and works. JimN

Set the pump in a clean container of engine oil and twist the drive gear until the pump is primed and then install on the engine. We had a pressure vessel so that we could force engine oil
thru the engine until it showed oil pressure on the gauge then we would make the engine start.
