I have an aftermarket oil filter housing much larger than OEM on a M tractor. Can anyone tell me what filter to use in it? Not sure of the manufacturer and no numbers are readable on the old filter. Thanks.

I have several Luber-Finer filters for the M. One is NOS with original stickers. It should have the name 'Luber-Finer' stamped lightly on the lid. Hard to see through rust and paint.

My father-in-law has one like pictured above on his Super 77 Oliver. I believe you take the cardboard out of a toilet paper roll and drop it in...

If the one Kirk has pictured isnt it, it could be a Luberfiner (sp). I have seen quite a few of these on Ms for some reason.

Similar to that AERO filter is a FRANTZ. The Frantz used a roll of toilet paper as the filter media. YES, it really did.

I am aware of the two different sizes from the factory, but this is definitely a different beast. You actually remove just the top to replace the filter and not the entire housing like we are used to doing.
Thanks for your reply and I will make a note of the IH filter numbers for the original housings.

I am not sure if you know this or not, but Farmall M's were equipped with two different sized filters depending on their age. All M's up until the change over at serial number FBK-59393 used a large filter that was around 6 or 7 inches in diameter. All M's after the changeover used a smaller canister that was around 4 inches in diameter. I just know that our 1940 Farmall M has the large filter and the 1951 W6 (same motor) has the large filter. The part number for the large filter is 257867R92. The small filter has the option between a heavy duty filter and a normal duty filter which are 360431R91 (normal duty) and 355010R91 (heavy-duty).
