Hey all.I was just wondering where I might find a parts source for the above title. I have a '44 A model with a 6v starter. The plunger from the lever to the starter body's copper connector spins when I tighten the battery cable to it and I cannot manage to get it to remain in position. Lately, it has become nearly impossible to get Betty (that's the tractor's name) to crank over. The other day, I took off the starter motor and gave it a thorough going over for obvious signs of wear and death of parts. The only real issue I have is the starter plunger that attaches to the starter body (the above part that spins when you tighten it) as well as some pretty heavy wear on the copper connector that goes through the starter body and connects to the windings. My nearest Tractor replacements store (B&M Tractor Supply in Taylor, TX) is fully 70 miles away and they can supply a rebuilt motor for $175.00, which seems awfully pricey, even allowing for 64 years of tractor aging. I am sure that I can desolder the copper connector and replace it if I only had a parts supplier that could ship to me the correct items. Problem is: There is no mention in my A/B Model parts guide of an electric starter. Thus, I have no parts guide. I suppose I could order the hand crank attachment, though I don't relish the idea of a backfire while cranking. So, does anyone out there know where I can get a good parts guide for 6v starters for Farmall A/B models and/or where I can get parts for one? all the best and thanks in advance, Christopher (dunniteowl)
