I would run about 25 hours or so before the first oil change. After that, 75 to 100 hours or once a year, whichever comes first.

Use whatever oil you want, anything with an API starburst symbol will be fine. Pretty much ANY oil made today is 50x better than what was available when the tractor was built.

Any good detergent oil will work fine. Diesel rated oil might be better for the cam and lifters. Change the oil and filter after a few hours. Change them again after another 20 or so.

Work the tractor while you are breaking it in. Start with easy loads and work your way up to a heavy load over a few hours.

I'd like to know where that comes from. Certainly race bikes and cars tend to get run hard from the get go, but who cares if you (or your mechanics) are rebuilding the motor every 5-10 hours. I could never see what it would hurt to gradually work them up to full load.

A sure way to break it as opposed to breaking in is to use it hard. If it was truly and completely overhauled there are many rough edges, that need to be rounded in. When breaking in on a dyno you don't crank it to max load you ease up. Poor explaination, I know but Tractor builders, engine manufacturers/builders never ever recommend hard break in.

If she's put together right you won't hurt her. Alot of those machines were put immediately to work 50 plus years ago and they seemed to do ok.

kossuth, DIRECT QUOTE FROM 'DC' CASE MANUAL FORM 5297 SM dated 1-47. "No fine piece of machinery should be loaded to full capacity until it has had a reasonable running in period. For the first 50 hours this tractor should be run at half load or less..... " . This 50 hour is why we now break in on a dyno. I can give you similar quotes from IHC, JD, or Allis manuals.
