Putting Rear wheel weights on an 856....

Have a set of 8 -1 pece and two piece weights that came off an 806 with 34" and I want to put them on my 856 with 38". After measuring the mounting holes in the wheels on both tractors they are the same dementions. The hole in the wheels are 16 1/2 OC cross ways and 12" OC hole to hole. The 1 piece weight holes are 15" OC cross ways and 10 1/2 " OC hole to hole.
I know this is a simple matter but I can't figure out how to get the first weight installed so the rest will bolt up. I didn't go thru the whole stack of 1 piece weights but is there a starter weight I need to use that lines up with holes on the wheel or do I start with a couple of two piece weights? I have looked in my owners manual and the IT manual but there is no mention how to mount them other than bolts sizes needed. Attached are a few photos of the two tractor wheels and of the weights. I did notice some of the one piece weightsare 8887-D 1 and some are 2's and a couple are marked with just a W-9. Any help would be great. Or a photo would work too.

the one piece weights look like w-9 weights. i"d venture to guess they had the two piece weight mounted first, then stacked the w-9 weights on top, and used the u shaped slotsin the weights to bolt them to the two piece weights. prolly used 1 inch bolts and some flat stock or big washers when they were clamped to the two piece weights.

The 1 piece weight in the pic. has the numbers 8887 - D at the ten o'clock position, a capitol "T" at noon, and a casted in "IH" emblem at about 4 o'clock. The picture doesn't show it very good. I'm not saying these are Genuine IH weights but they are marked with an IH. The issue is how to get the first weight on solid with the bolt holes being so far off.

As far as them coming off the 806, It is my father in laws tractor that we still have. When he bought it from a big dryland farmer years ago, with 18.4 x 34's, it had 4 of the 1 piece weights and 8 of the 2 piece weights per rear axle plus ballast in the inside tires and air in the clamp on duals, and 1200# on the front. I know that is a lot of weight but that it how it was. I didn't get in on taking the weights off but they did come off the 806 wheel in the pic. Maybe at the bottom of the stack there is a couple of weights that go no first.

Are both sets of holes the same pattern on the 1 piece weights?

The half wieghts will need to go on first to clear the hub. That we know.

Then see if the smaller holes are the correct pattern in the 1 piece.

Yes both sets of holes, the large holes and the threaded holes are the same 15" OC. The holes in the 2 piece are 12" OC. They should bolt to the wheel but I can't see that the 1 piece will bolt to them without some "fitting". Thanks for all the info.

Jeepers guys, this isn't so difficult...

Mount the two-piece weights first. Only the first set gets bolted to the hub through the four center holes. You can load all the two-piece weights on the four center holes if you use threaded rod (readybolt?).

For the once-piecers, you need to get a little creative.
See if the slots on the outside edges of the weights will line up. You're supposed to mount additional sets of weights after the first set using these slots.

The one-piecers were probably mounted through the outside slots. I'm surprised that nobody remembers how they were loaded on the old tractor... even vaguely.

Oh shoot, I just noticed that the one-piece weights don't have the small slots like the 2-piecers. So much for my theory...

Once again I have to ask: Doesn't anybody remember how they were installed on the other tractor? There must be a way to do it.

the issue seems to be how to mount them, not whether they are correct. IF they were on an 856, they will fit the 806. the wheel diameter is a non-issue. use ready bolt (try to find grade 8 or at least grade 5- i think standard redibolt is grade 2. standard will work, but 4 weights on a side is a load) and cut 4 pieces for each wheel, long enough for the wheel, nuts/washers, and all 4 weights. you may have to use the 2 piece ih sets on the inside, to clear the wheel hub. after the inside set, slide the rest on and bolt them fast. if there are 2 sets of ih weights, i'd put 1 set on the outside of the stack and most people won't even notice that some aren't standard ih.

If the holes don't line up because they are incorrect that is a mounting issue. If the holes are an inch or two off you're never going to get the ready bolt in. Lee

you guys are right about the bolt pattern- i skipped over that part. doh! i was focusing on the 34 and 38" cast wheels having the same bolt pattern. would a pressed wheel have a different pattern? maybe this is what was on the previous tractor? but pressed wheels usually take a cone shaped weight. dan may have to ask the previous owner what sort of magic bolts he used in the 806.

Those weight's are IH or McCormick Deering, however you want to look at it. They're W9 and WD9 weight's and the bolt hole's don't line up on an 856.

I don"t know how they were on the 806, but the one piece weights in the picture are not IH weights. IH one piece weights are shaped just like the two piece weights in the picture and the holes will line up. You can use ready bolt to put the weights on just be sure to use 4 nuts for each weight. Or you can bolt the first weight on with regular bolts and then bolt on each subsequent weight with special square head all thread 3/4 bolts using the slotted holes on the sides of the weight. I don"t know if you can still get the special bolts from a dealer, I made mine with ready bolt and square nuts. You slide a bolt into the slot and bolt it to the already mounted weight and then bolt the next weight on with another nut. You can keep adding weights by alternating which two holes you use. Someday I"ll learn how to put pictures on here and these won"t be so long. Lee

Just go but some 3/4 inch threaded rod and cut them into 8 equal lengths and bolt them to the hub on both out and inside and then slide your weights on and put a washer lock washer and a nut to hold them on.

This is not a real good close up.

Your 1 piece weights should look like these.

The inside hole should be shaped the same as your 2 piece as others have said.

Your one piece may be Massy or Oliver they are not IH.
