Farmall Super C Belt Pulley

I was in a recent accident involving my Super C in which the housing for the rear pulley was busted. I don"t use the pulley, but I do use the PTO. Is there a way to remove the pulley and pulley housing, install a blanking plate over it and still have a functional PTO?? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

smokinjoe3, it is as Hass has said. They do make a plate, but I cannot tell you the part #. I got a cover off of another C to replace the belt drive on my son, Shawn's SC. As I did not want pulley on SC, since there would be a lot of Special Olympic kids around his tractor.

I would either use part # Haas gave ya, and check with your CNH dearler to see if you can still get it. Or check at local tractor scrape yards..HTH

Thanks for all of the information! I was just looking for an easy (cheap) way of fixing the problem, but it looks like the "blanking" plate will cost more than a used housing. I'll probably just find one on ebay unless someone on here has one cheap they'd like to get rid of. Again, I really appreciate the help!

You can probably find one of those cover plates on E bay, or put an ad in the classifieds here. I got one on E bay a few years back.

You can remove the belt pulley housing and leave the PTO assembly on there. You will have to locate a cover to replace the belt pulley assembly. YOu can't just use a flat plate, as the shaft and gear that drive the belt pulley protrude past the PTO assembly. There is an IH part for this, IH part 9092D. You will also need a gasket, part no. 60581D and if you want to do the job right, a spacer, part number 48152D. The spacer is to put on the shaft in place of the gear that drives the pulley assembly. I don't think you have to remove the gear, as I believe the cover will accomodate it. However, the gear is really part of the pulley assembly and is necessary if someone wants to add a pulley to a PTO not originally equipped with a pulley. If you want to take off the gear, you will need a puller and a bearing separator to get the tear off the shaft. Easier to leave it on.

Depends what you busted.

My parts book for my SuperC only shows the integrated PTO and pulley unit in a single housing. (My book for As and Bs shows all the various combinations, PTO only, pulley only, PTO and pulley.)

If what you busted is just the retainer that holds the outer bearing and seal for your belt pulley then, yes, you can dispense with the shaft to the pulley, tap out some gasket material to seal it, and fab up a cover to close it up.

If you busted up the cast housing for the whole unit, you'll find yourself McThreaded unless you can find someone who can weld up the cast and machine down the surface where the pulley flange was to take a gasket and plate. If you need to run it an can get by without the PTO for a while, you can remove the entire unit and do the same make-a-gasket-and-plate exercise to closr that up until you can find a replacement.

I know there were different editions of the parts book, so maybe another one shows something else.

Yep, I had to remove the pulley when I got my fast hitch to 3 point adapter, the third arm mounts there. It is just a plate with the linkage for the arm. I don't know why you couldn't just make a plate to cover it. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
