Sawtooth lever has worn out on my H, has been welded a couple of times, wondering if I should go with a friction lever or stay with sawtooth?

Sawtooth for me. I'm a stickler for originality, though. I'm also in the habit of pushing down on the handle when throttling up so to avoid wear caused by dragging it across the teeth.

Red, I have the notched on both the H and MD, definetly like it better than friction and they are an improvement over the sawtooth. Good luck, Chuck

Jonnny, IH sold an improvement kit for the diesels that used the same notched throttle as the H and M. It is a lot better than the left hand uppercut that was standard.

I prefer the sawtooth. I had a MW friction on my M for years and battled it slipping from WOT. Put the sawtooth on and it holds the setting forever.

I think it looks better with the original style too.

Sawtooth. Always know where to put it for PTO work, or any other common job. If it had a tach, mabe have a different answer. Mike

friction s better in reply to RedDogFarms, 05-21-2008 13:33:17
The 1st thing i do to all my tractors is put a friction one on. The ones on ebay are better then the saw tooth type. I have 4 old saw tooth type. They are pretty much worthless. Seen them sell on ebay for less then 5 dollars. So they must not be rare.

They aren't rare, IH used sawtooth until the end of production, possibly used notched toward the end. Notched was the replacement for the sawtooth. It does not slip. Still say the M&W looks clutzy.

Sawtooth, or notched. Throttle lever on the H/M, etc is unique, M&W friction makes them look like any old tractor. You don't need any more fine tuning than the saw tooth or the newer notched will give.

I prefer friction. The cheap knock-offs on eBay aren't as good as a genuine M&W, though.

Friction is desirable. M&W Parts on farmalls do not detract from value. I find the tooth style too be temporary in function.. JimN

People say the friction throttle gives you more selection on RPM"s but I don"t think you really need it.
