I know this is not a truck forum, but I thought you guys could point me in the right direction. Does anybody know of a discussion group that I could ask some questions regarding an IH Loadstar 1600? It has not run in 4 years. I might try to get it going again. The price is right....free. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Phlogiston.

Hi,

I recently picked up a 76 1600 loadstar with a 14 box on the back. Truck runs good but needs power steering. Anyone know where I might come across a full set up. I have been told that any year up to 1980 should suffice. Drop me an emial if you have one or know where to get one. thanks

Me and a buddy of mine got a '71 loadstar for free . The flatbed was rotted through and it was really rusty . The engine would only fire over if you put gas straight into the carb . The problem was the electric fuel pump was shot and had no shut off , so it ran if the batery was on but not the engine . The thing was flooding so I just put a toggle switch on the dash to turn on the gas when I drive it . The truck is a beauty and runs terific . The truck only has 85,000 miles on it but it has much more hours on the engine due to the pto which operates the boom . Even though the truck is old and has lots of hours it still runs great .

I have a 1800 loadstar and it sits over the winter to start it in the spring I charge the battery and dump gas in the carb and she fires right off

A local mechanic that has been working on trucks since the 50's tells me that IHC's, especially with the 345 engine, are very sensitive to over-revving, and have a nasty tendency to twist off the drive quill on the oil pump, leading to their demise. Other than that, they are bullet-proof.
