My tractor is 250 miles away and I forgot to measure the square hole that is in the top of the add fluid to the transmission housing. Can someone let me know the size? It would be really appreciated. I need to take a tool with me so I can get some kerosene in there to soak. Thanks again!

I just did my 1953 Super C last Sat. and borrowed a 3/4 inch drive from my neighbor that worked great.I thought it would be real tight but it was just a little tighter than finger tight. The drain plug on my C took a half inch drive and I think the plug to check the level took a half inch open end wrench if Im not mistakin. If your tractor is like mine you wont belive the nasty junk that will come out of there. I let it all drain then put a little kerosene in and drained it again and left the plug out over night and got another quart of nasty sticky rusty goo.

The H has a 3/4 square socket. I use my 3/4 drive wrench and it works perfectly.

Alan,

On my 49 H the plug is bigger than a 1/2 inch drive I found a tool to take it off in the tool box on the tractor it was about a 3/4 inch piece or stock with a 1/2 inch drive attachment on top to put your rachet or breaker bar on to get it off...good luck ....Jason

On my 'A' it's a half-inch square hole. I use a half-inch socket-driver with an extension to open it. Other tractors may be different.

Alan, I used a 1" pipe plug with a square top that fit perfectly into the square hole in the tranny fill plug. Then used a pipe wrench on the pipe plug to turn the tranny plug out. Might want to try using some Kroil penetrant on it first to get the rust/crud desolving. 3/4" square stock will work too like Dave said. Good Luck.//FB

Thanks Farmer Bob but I said that I use 3/4 inch stock to remove mine on my H don't mean to be rude but, I am new to tractors and am just glad I knew what I was talking about...Jason

That's what I get for trying to read/respond to these threads late at night after a long days work like many others. Important thing is what you tried worked and you had it right there in your tool box.//FB
