I have a 140, and it starts just great now that I have rebuilt the starter, and new ring gear. I was just wondering tho..I have tried time and again to start this tractor with the crank. I fits into the crank, but doesn't seem to be very steady, and it easily pops out if you let it get a little to the side. Is there something wrong with the crank in this tractor...is the crank hole too shallow or something?? I don't see for the life of me how anyone could start a tractor with the handle this loose. Yes, it still has the thing on the crank that the handle fits into..but I just don't get it. can someone tell me what I'm not seeing or doing right...gn

I don't know how similar your sheet metal is as compaired to my "A" but on mine there is a C shaped bracket right behind the grill that the crank passes through. This bracket does two things it supports the crank and also is the lower attachment point for the grill. If yours is missing the crank will not fit secure.

Good Luck; Steve

Or if it's worn out. Over years of use mine has worn to the point where it's has a rather large oval hole in it. The two bolts that hold it in place are long enough for you to put a 3/16 inch or even 1/4 inch doubler plate over the front to act as a bearing surface provided you have a way to get a snug fitting wing-nut shaped hole through it. (I used the "file and fit" method.) This is for the A, as Steve mentioned.
