Hi Farmall folks...gn again. Last week I asked the question of why on my 140 the coil is too hot to the touch, even with a ballast resistor in the circuit to the coil. Someone had mentioned that I might be getting too much voltage to the points. If that is the case..what's the fix..?? Do I use lighter gage wire..? It is converted to 12v, and I use a ballast resistor. It seems to do it even with a coil with an internal resistor. Any suggestions..Thank you in advance...gn

Did you measure the voltage to the points with the points closed and the ignition turned on? If so, what did you read?

No, I didn't measure the voltage at the points. I don't know what it's suppose to be at that point..and what to do to change it if is out of spec. Does wire gage effect this? Neither coil I have tried leaks. thanks gn

Check your coil to see if it's leaking oil. The coil has oil in it to keep it cool. If all the oil has leaked out, thats probly why it's hot. I had this problem before.
