The old chrysler generator on my h isn't working so i am interested in replacing it. I found a used generator for $65 that is in working condition. My friend offered to give me his generator off an M he got rid of a while back(if he can find it)but it needs new brushes. First, is this gonna fit on my H. And second what does it cost to have a generator rebuilt? Does anyone have any suggestions as to who does this? Or will it be cheaper to buy the used one. Thanks.

Hey Aaron - Did you check the brushes in your old Chrysler alternator? That's often what goes out on 'em and causes them to quit working. A new brush set costs about $4, and they can be replaced without removing or dissassembling the alternator.

If it were me Id take the free one.If the 65 dollar one goes out or it isnt good to start with you will have to have it fixed anyway so why not save a few bucks and take the freebie. You can have them repaired at any alt/starter shop and as mentioned you can have them rewired for 12 volt.Mine cost 75 bucks with the new regulator.

Yes the generator off the M will work on the H. Any good alternator shop can rebuild the generator or even upgrade it to 12 volt if you desire. Depending on what is all wrong with the generator, a professional rebuild will run between $50-75. A new Delco voltage regulator will run around $50 if one is needed.
