dad said he thought the carb just came apart because it was all still hanging from the linkage. but the main question was what holds the top and bottom together is it a bolt ? a pin ? or what ? thanks grady

There are three section to this carburetor. The bottom section bolts to the manifold, the center section has the air horn that goes to the air cleaner, the top section has the fuel bowl and float assembly. I'm guessing that the carburetor has come apart between the lower and center sections. What holds it together is a thick nut with holes in it screwed into the upper section. There should be a rod extending out of the bottom side of this nut. this rod goes through the center section not holding anything and into the hole in the bottom section. There is a one inch thick nut that screws onto this rod on the bottom of the lower section. This nut is thick so you can bolt on the carburetor drip pan. There must be a bolt in the bottom side of this nut or you'll have a vacuum leak. What I'm guessing has happened is the rod that goes through the bottom section has rotted in two. I had one that did the same thing. I hope I've helped, if you need to talk to me, send your email address and I'll send my phone number. Good Luck:} Daniel M.
