I wanted to tell you guys that I recently purchased (officially) my Grandpa's 1940 Farmall A (serial number 40919. It has been sitting for around 8 years now, but it has been in a totally enclosed shed and I have been giving it a few cranks religiously so that it is not locked up. Tires still have air in them and the tin is about %85. It ran when it was parked where it sits and after my Grandpa passed away, it wasn't really needed anymore. Yesterday, I officially bought it and all its equipment. I bought it for $800 and my Dad said I could have his share of the little machine, bringing my out of pocket cost to a mere $533. That includes the tractor, cultivater, planter and fertilizer boxes, diskplow, two JD disk harrows, a drum type scraper, a corn stalk chopper, dump hay rake, and a frozen up pull type sickle mower. I can't help but smile when I think about a deal like that! I am pretty sure it isn't getting any spark, so where should I start? I plan to drain the fluids, etc., to get it is running shape, but where should I start to get it sparking and then running? (Kind of a broad question, I know, but I gotta start somewhere)
Thanks for letting me tell you about my new project, not to mention my new pride and joy. Ya'll have a good one.

Heh that great! You'll have a lot of fun with
it! Just hearing all the stories and then when
you finally have it all restored an older man
will walk up probably smoking his pipe and take
a glance at the tractor and in a reply he will
tell you the history of that little tractor. So
many good things to learn! I know I just restored
my 1949 Super A! I will be posting a pictures of it very soon. If you ever have questions, just
drop me a line, I might be able to help ya.

Congratulations on keeping the tractor in the family!! I wish I could find my grandpa's H with M&W 9-speed, and so does my dad who sold it in a weak moment in 1983 because of the drought(he told me to write that).

AGEN I would start with points and plugs.Along with changing the fluids also check your fuel tank for rust.As a rusty fuel tank can cause all kinds of carb headaches later on.That ought to give you a good start on things.Good luck with your new tractor.PS and make sure you clean the sediment bowl and screen on the carb inlet.
