If you have not already done so, please register your 350 in the registry on this site. There are only a few registered.

I first became acquainted with the 350 utility in 1960 when I operated one a lot. I spent many hours on that tractor and to my recollection, we never had a breakdown of any kind over several years.

I bought a 350 hi-utility about 4 years ago and have used it ever since. I've never had a problem with the TA and it's never been overhauled since new, and I have known the ownership of this tractor since it was new. However, some of the other posts are right that that has been a problem area for these tractors. There are some differences between the 300 utility and the 350 counterpart. In addition to a little more displacement and horsepower, the fast hitch is slightly different, the clutches are different,(the 300 pivots in front of the footrest, the 350 underneath it). As were all the IH's of that vintage, these tractors are as durable as an old anvil. With reasonable maintenance it should give you years of service and pleasure.

My dad had a 350 U in the 60's. It was a fun tractor to drive. We had a two point hitch and had a cultivator and mowing machine with it. As it being a good loader tractor, I have a 300 U which is the version 2 years before the 350U. Mine had a loader and it ruined several steering parts. Mine does not have power steering so I think that contributed to some of the problems. Others in this forum have confirmed that on 300 U they know about. I don't know if a 350 has the same steering or if it has been improved. If the steering has been beefed up then it would be a good loader tractor.

Great loader tractor. I know a guy who bought a 350U 3 years ago in excellent condition with a good loader for $1,750 about $2,000 cheaper than normal around here. He has lots of money but won't sell me the tractor for what he paid for it. He is selling it and buying a new John Deere, tsk, tsk, tsk.

right around 40 hp, 5 speed trans, probably a tourqe amp on it. Nice tractor. Not real tall, live hyd, live pto. can manuvear good in small areas. most have a fast hitch on them. We used one for just about everything when I was young, plowing, discing, haying, harvesting. It will preform comperable to a H Farmall.

Thanks all! For the information on the IH 350.
I have heard that the torque amplifiers on IH tractors can be a problem. Is this fact or fiction!. This is my first attempt at owning a
tractor and I don't want to make any major mistakes. Thanks Robert

Agree with Alan that the TA is a problem area reported by many IH and Farmall owners. Would add that perhaps the most commonly neglected and certainly important thing to do in avoiding problems in this area is to keep the clutch and TA levers (they interact) adjusted properly. The procedures for this are covered in detail in the owner's manual, among other places. If you've got clutches slipping, you're going to have problems. I looked at several tractors before purchasing my 300U, and half of them had these adjustments wrong - from which I conclude that this is a very commonly neglected maintenance item.

Also would like to emphasize the importance of spending a few buck for the manual(s), especially the owner's manual. I don't think you have much chance of properly maintaining the tractor without it.

Fact! My advice to you is to use the TA only occaisionally and not all the time and NEVER have it in road gear and use the TA it will lunge terribly when you take the TA off while in road gear. Then you will be spending lotsa $ to get it fixed.

Alan, when you let the T/A out in any gear, do so kind of easy. The higher the gear, the easier. You should have no problem if kept in adjustment and operated with common sense.
