Another? : Will a M handle a IH #82 Combine?

Another quick M question: One of the IH items I would like to have one day is a model 80 or 82 IH combine. Does a M have enough power to handle one? If a M is a little underpowered, how would a Super M fare? Won't be for real farming, mainly "play" but I want the tractor to have a fighting chance!

thanks,
Al

I used to have a Super MD that I pulled a model 76 pto driven combine with including pulling a flare box with sideboards along side. The tractor played with the load, uphill & downhill. I was combining oats windrowed with an 8 foot windrower. Don't think you'd have any problem pulling the combine with your M. Have fun. I now have a model 80 combine that I hope to take some video with next year combining soybeans. I'll be pulling it with my '55 300.

I used a 340 on a #80 with 6ft head in rye and got by fine.(Went did some oats a few weeks later and thought I was in heaven!).

Dad used to use His Super M-TA on a jd 25 then a jd 30 combine. His '51 M would outpull the M-TA so I'd have to say the M on an IHC 80 or 82 would be fine. I think the combines only had the 113 cid A or B engine on them when they weren't PTO driven. Dad also pulled the wagon along side the combine to unload on-the-go, so He was pulling much more weight. IH photo archives show H's pulling the engine driven 80's & 82's, and would maybe handle the load on level ground of a PTO driven, but as said earlier would be a low gear proposition.

yes the M will handle that model and then some also an H would do it also that is what 1st gear is for

I use my M all the time on my AC66. I've even used my H on it. Its a 5 ft cut so if the IH is similar it won't be a problem. I don't think its a problem if its a bigger cut either.
