RE: 1926 Whippet tractor. Original price on posted ad was $1000. After negotiating per e-mail and phone calls, arrangement was made to purchase and $200 downpayment was sent to father (owner of tractor), Stan Markey. Upon arrival today, price was stated as $10,000. What gives?! BUYER BEWARE!

sorry for being ignorant, but is that a doodlebug tractor made from a whippet car? never heard of a whippet tractor. if there is such it might be worth 10,000. if doodlebug, i dunno.

Russ, this Overland Whippet tractor was not made from a car. It was made by the people who made the car but is not completely original. Motor and transmission are original, however. Drive shaft was shortened and modified to make a chain drive. Owner's son provided this info. Tractor has been repainted. Wouldn't make the drive from MO to OH again unless I had written contract...

Sure doesn't sound like a pretty good deal, then.
