A question was raised recently in one of the forums if Janesville Tractor is Bob and Ben Burns. A photo ad today reveals that that is indeed the Burns lot. I recognize the the building in the backround.

In the fall of 2004 I was close to buying a JD R from Ben. Saw the ad here, and the picture looked great. Talked to him and it all sounded to good to be true. (The R was $3,750 and looked very very nice in the picture.). Before I bought it, I drove down to look at it and it did not look ½ as good as the tractor in the picture. Truth be told it was probably a fair price for the R. The problem was that I was led to believe that it was a much nicer tractor than it actually was.

My point is, Ben’s tractors always look like a deal that is just too good to pass up, but they are actually priced about right. If I would have bought that R, I would have got what I paid for (not what I expected but what I deserved), a $3,700 R that needed a whole lot of work.

Here is a point worth noting… There are a whole lot of dealers/jockeys listing tractors on this board and since it has become fee based for dealers (and it seems to be an honor system) very few of the dealers are listing themselves as dealers. Ben/Janesville Tractor is one of the few. I’ll give him points for that.

I was BURNED by Ben Burns a couple of years ago on an R. He TOTALLY misrepresented the tractor! He wouldn't return my phone calls or emails. BEWARE! This guy WILL rip you off!

I have never dealt with this person personally, but a two friends of mine bought tractors from him. The first one was very satisfied, and the tractor is very nice. Runs and looks good. Second involved a JD with a pony motor. He was told both motors ran good. They do, but the pony needed the coils replaced before this was accomplished. Other than that, it seems to be a solid old tractor. I'm not saying he is good or bad. Just stating that at least a couple of his deals were ok. I asked the first guy this past weekend if he would buy another tractor from this person. He said yes, but I would go and look it over first. I would not buy sight unseen.
