I posted 2 ads this week, 1 for a tractor and another for a vacuum pump.
I have received some strange feedback from individuals in the United Kingdom and Belgium. They even offered more than the asking price, infact 1 was a way over. Does this sound like a scam or has others had similar experiences with favorable results?

I get this all the time. I tell them to send their big check to the person who will pick up the item and have him bring CASH to pay for the item when he picks it up . Never hear from them again.

The scammers are now using Sprint Relay, a system designed for handicapped that cannot talk. You will get a call and the conversation is typed by the Sprint moderator. If you get one of these calls and you do not know the person, it is a scam, just tell the Sprint person tell them to call the FBI with what they would like to offer for your equipment, they will hang up immediately. It is not uncommon to get an email and a phone call from the same scammer.
If you demand cash, demand their address, phone number, etc., they will also hang up. They are looking for a sucker who thinks someone will really pay them thousands more than they are asking.
Let's shut them down.

Newt, I have gotten some scammers that are getting pretty darn hard to pick up on. They speak and type well. I tried to warn people on "tractor Talk", but a lot of the guys out ther think that they are the old Mohamah style ones. They are getting more polished and people are going to get burnt by these new ones.

Go over to "tractor talk", and type "scam" into the search box. Rest assured you're not the first to get those emails.

If you get a response that seems too good to be true, it is too good to be true. I had a set of John Deere H fenders on the internet. Had a 'buyer' from Singapore send a cashier's check from a 'Florida' bank ( It looked very real!!), for $3000., & wanted the difference returned by Western Union. He sure did not want a cashier's check back. If the buyer will not call to confirm or wants to send you too much, and you return the overage to him, by secure means, he will have your money before you find his cashier's check is worthless. Do not bite on anything that wants to send you too much, and wants the difference sent back, by much more secure means. Tell them to go to a bank and send you the correct amount. That will separate the wheat from the chaff. Also, you will see that they are only interested in the check cashing, not the item they are buying from you. Proceed with plenty of caution.

I have had a similar experience on a implement and a tractor part . I was offered more than I was asking . Plus over three thousand dollars , I was supposed to forward on to their shipping agent. The amounts didn"t make sense. No phone numbers, the one wouldn"t give any address. I am very discouraged about using the internet for any business.

I have heard of instances where international people were using stolen checks etc. to extort monies and launder money.

Beware!! I have had several responses in the last few days from these scammers. My first reply to them demands a location and e-mail address that works, as well as letting them know that I will not accept a check for more than the price of the item, and the item will be held for 60 days to make sure check is good. This usually gets rid of them. An honest person will reply. Thanks
