Hi YT People... a lot of e-mails are coming in asking what is the "Reserve" on the tractors and implements (trucks too) I have posted. First off, I am not a dealer... I am a hobbiest in old iron and a self proclaimed North American pioneer preservationalist... I have the fortune of living in rural America where the grassroots people are, work in the oil patch and get to drive hundreds of miles of back roads every day. I stop when I see old iron "in the weeds"... meet the farmer, wife and family and have 39 hours of the best talk one can ask for. I ask "is it for sale" if no, I ask can I take a picture and mark down serial number for my "where is it now book". If yes, I tell them about YTmag.com, and get to posting their iron. Idea in mind to get "as much as we can", that is the American way. Everyone can be informed as to what is available and have opportunity to bid at the auction, I post a "Safety Reserve", that is, if it is reasonable worth under $1000 then $1000 is the YT Reserve, if under $10,000 then $10,000 is the Reserve and so on $25k, $50k, $100k (UDLX territory). Then, it is the HIGH BIDDER and BRIDESMAID I am looking for. Once established, then we get down to brass tacts... Seller---as much as can get down to rock bottom happiness, Buyer---as little as possible to best offer happiness, and usually a deal is struck in between rock bottom and best offer and happiness prevails. Then comes the detail of trucking... either you come and get it, simple, to lining up trucker... little more work, but have good deals on backhauls as truckers do not like hauling "sail boat air" When I have a firm $ figure from the seller I will post the firm figure as Reserve and watch it play out. An auction is a auction... if you don't like auctions then find your deal in the Photo Ads. $ For me... I charge $50 (CDN) for taking pictures, record history, post picture, answer e-mails and phone calls, line up trucking, do paper work with border agents-NAFTA-EMBARGOS-Hoof & Mouth, BSE, BILL OF SALE etc. On final, $ rendered, I sit down with seller and come up with bonus, range depending on profit over expected. I do not charge the buyer any finder fee, just loading and that is at cost. I have been doing this on YT for over 5 years, and I will get R.Lawrence one day, other than that I have never had a deal go sour. My proceeds go to keeping the hobby going, pay the internet bill, phone bill, give money to battered wives and children, buy toys for Big Brothers, give to my Church, support breast cancer and save old iron from the smelter. So, go ahead and bid and have fun... when it is no more fun, I am out-a-here. If you have any other questions or comments, drop a line here on YT, e-mail me at gklemen@memlane.com or call toll free 1-877-315-5050. EMPTYPOCKETS.

Good evening, Emptypockets!

Even though I don't have enough money left to bid (now I know firsthand how expensive tractor restoration is!), I enjoy looking at your auction posts. Do you post your items in Canadian or American dollars?
Keep up the great work finding old machinery. Someday I may bid on a piece!

I post in US $$$ as YT is a US web site and set up that way, every one is on the same page then. I use a money convertor web page when wanting to convert to Canadian, Sakatchewan, Mexican, Euros and Yen. Thank you for the compliment on my postings, I try to keep it light and enjoyable, all the seriuos detail comes out over the e-mail link and telephone. I post so all can bid and have auction fun, and if you break the reserve, it still comes down to a final good old boy deal and I will not hold anything against anyone if they choose to back out, there are bid bridesmaids to deal with too, I just like to ferret our a buyer at the end of the day. Your comment...nNot enough to bid and get into the best interest in town... don"t fret, let me know your budget and I"ll see what my freinds and I can do... my best collection I personally have, and I am darn proud of it,is a growing fleet of dinky toy tow trucks, now 40 strong, inculding some scale diecasts the kids and my lady have wrapped up for me once in a while. The whole thing started one day with YT, I bought a JD peddle tractor at and auction sale for $111 (CDN), posted it, sold it for $300, have not looked back... by the way a JD peddle tractor recently sold at farm auction for $1900 (CDN), was in worse shape than the one I moved along. Go out and start finding old iron and stuff at your garage sales, flea markets, or whereever, put in you left hand, hold for a while and admire, pass over to right hand and post to sell to another to hold and admire, repeat the process (with a little...just a little profit in heart and mind) and you know yesterday is the first time in 12 years I sat down with a 80 year old fellow and cut a deal and bought a International 650... what a rush. Find YT, the people, the stories, the love and you will have more than money can ever buy. And save some old iron from the smelter!

Aye, it's always good to pass a good chuckle around, and old machinery too. I myself, despite being only 15, am getting involved in old machinery collecting and restoration. It's sort of tough to do much though, because it can be quite an expensive hobby. I spent this winter (and all of my spare money!) on restoring my '52 John Deere AW. I also have a pile of other projects lined up, so I could be busy for a while. :-)
Collecting toys isn't really my cup of tea, as I like to get out and work with my machinery. Still, thanks for mentioning it.
Aye, I certainly agree with you that this hobby is more than just machinery. The friendships I'm forming are more precious than gold. :-)
Thanks for offering to help me. Right now, I have more projects than dollars to spend on them. I still keep on eye on the auction page, though.
I'm down in southern Alberta (Granum area) at least once a year, so I may give you a shout this summer anyway.
Glad to talk with you! Catch ya later!
