I have recieved 2 phone calls now with an Operator/Translator claiming to have a deaf person interested in buying a tractor. After giving the opertor the information...here comes my message back in the same lousy broken english they use in their emails wanting to send me $7000 for a $4000 machine. I hope the little F&^%$ at least got charged for the long distance call. Beware!

My wife has worked at the bank for the past 26 years and cashiers checks aren't necessarily guaranteed. If there is a fraudulent cashiers check, it sometimes can take up to 15 business days before the scam is caught, resulting in loss
of both the seller's item and the difference of the check amount. (They often send a bad check for several thousand more than the asking price and ask the seller to deposit the check and send the difference back to them in a money order along with their item.) They're not worried about the item ...just the cash difference, which is guaranteed to them through the money order which they ask in return. BEWARE!

This is called the "check overpayment scam".
Do a Google on it or search the FCC site for a full description.

In my case, I wasted a lot of time on the scammer because initially, I gave him the benefit of the doubt. He emailed me that he would send "$20,000" for a tractor advertised at $!,400.
I almost dismissed it, but then thought maybe it was a typo, or he's a Canadian confused about the numbers. Then I got a check for thousands over the asking price, but the scammer's name was not even on it. The whole thing is very crudely done, apparently by foreign groups who understand our business practices about as well as they speak our language. But someone must be falling for it or why would they keep at it?
