I"ve bought 2 tractors and a ton of parts from Calvin, the tractors and parts were just like he said they were. I took a buddy up there with me one time looking for an air stack for a late JD A, ole Calvin said I"ve got a new one around here some place, and spent over an hour crawling around in the bens and sheds till he found it. Gave my friend a good deal on it, so he bought a few other things. He"s driven me over to his other place and we picked and dug around in the sheds looking for parts. One time I bought an engine from him for my F-20, he said it was a good one, but when I got it home and cleaned up found the block cracked. I called and told him what I found, he apologized for telling me it was good, told me to keep it for what parts I could use, and he would mail my money back, or the next time I came up we could trade the amount for other parts. I know Calvin Meier to be a man of his word, and a gentleman.

I have known Calvin Meier for many years. Calvin got word of this post (he doesn't have a computer) and asked me to tell his side of the story. Mr. Meier advertised a set of Wards 23 degree tires in The Hook Magazine (I am looking at the ad as I type this). They were 14.9-38's. Firestone made several different types of "aftermarket" tires for different companies, Montgomery Wards being one of them. (They still make replacement quality tires with someone else's name on them. I have been in possession at different times of these tires and they plainly say "Montgomery Wards" on them.) Calvin quite plainly told the buyer what the tires were and described them as "Field and Road"-type tread, NOT the old style Montgomery Wards tires from the 40's and 50's. When the buyer of the tires received them they were not what he THOUGHT they would be but WERE what was described to him. He asked for his money back and Calvin said he would do that if the buyer would send the tires back to him. The buyer refused and said he would keep the tires and for Calvin to send him $200 to make it right, which Calvin justifiably refused. It is unfortunate that someone trying to cover their own mistake is launching out at the integrity of someone who tried to the best of his ability to remedy the situation. And I will gladly put my name on this post to vouch for Calvin. Mike Aylward

I have bought 2 tractors from Calvin in the past and they where just as he described. He even met me part way on one of them to help out on the distance and done it for free! Nice honest man to deal with. Fritz
