Kim: The context here is me as a possible buyer. Since you changed the format from a direct e mail to the seller to an e mail going through YT, I have not had a responce to any enquiries.

Now I don't respond to a lot of adds, but when done the old way by direct e mail to the vendor, 99% of the time I'd get a responce, even if it was just to tell me your too late, already sold.

Since the change over to e mail via YT, I can't think of a single responce I've received on roughly 20 inquiries. I am beginning to wonder if indeed my inquiries go through the system? Am I doing something wrong?

Hugh

Hugh, Regarding my late reply to your post - I think the problem is your post was placed in the ad feedback forum instead of the Site Comments area. This forum was set up for asking questions about particular sellers and buyers. Not to comment on the software.

Not a problem - I just didn't think to check here. I check the Site Comments quite often though so next time be sure and post there for a faster direct response from me.

See my reply regarding your specific problem below, thanks.

Hugh, can you give me one or two examples (actual ads)? That way I can look into them individually, by looking at the mail server logs. There are emails getting through to sellers and buyers, that I can assure you.

Also, I'll need to know if you get any type of error message back. Perhaps you could try to email someone on an ad, then let me know you did it. I'll trace it and try it myself too. We'll see what the logs show from there and see what we can do.

Thanks
Kim

Kim: It's been awhile since I responded to any add. I will go through the adds in morning, see what I can find. I'm not a prolific buyer, thus I don't inquire about many adds. I have noticed that I rarely get a responce with the new system. Under the old system, I may have a simple question, and responces came quite quickly.

This however is not the case with having my e mail address exposed in discussions. I get responces on those quite regularly.

Hugh, I have posted the same problem several times myself. I cannnot get a response on the ads and I have been told by the sellers when I call them they never received my email but when the give me the direct email then it goes through. Some of the sellers don't put their phone numbers in the ads. I know the reason the forum went to this type email but I had rather go back to the direct email and deal with the scammers. Kim is usually quick to fix a problem but she has not acknowledged this one yet. later, Jerry

Jrry: If in fact what we are assuming is correct, then not much use in even reading YT classifieds. I certainly have better things to do with my time than answer adds for which I'm not going to get a responce.

I guess there wouldn't be much point in advertising either if no one is going be able to respond.

Hugh, it has been somewhat frustrating on the emails. If the seller leaves the phone number then we can followup by calling, but sometimes they don't leave a number and are probably missing out on some sales.

Hugh,I've received several responces for ads but one never knows if "all were received". The YT classifieds are great because I've sold several tractors to different parts of the country. Tx Jim

Jim: Oh I definately agree on the usefulness of the YT classifieds, photo classifieds and auction. I have used them very little as a seller, but have bought a few items.

My point here is depending on a number of factors, some computers don't access everything at YT. For example all those photos with a little red x in a box, I've never been able to open them.

Before the change in format and when you made a direct e mail to the vendor, I had excellent responce. Since the change to e mail through YT, I can't remember getting a single responce on about 20 inquiries. Now if inquiries are not getting through, this whole process is not very fair to sellers thinking they are reaching all potential customers.

I might add I have also helped several vendors, I expect folks selling an estate, not really knowing a lot about the tractor and thinking the tractor was much older than it actually was. I have also been quick to point out (privately) when someone misrepresented a tractor calling it much newer than it actually is. Some of these folks just don't know, and if I can help before they get into a dispute with a potential customer, I feel I have helped in some way. Now there are other vendors who do know they are making misleading advertizing. I will point that out to them privately. If they advertize it a month later and not corrected the item, I may then go public.

This is the first time I've ever looked at this feed back site. Much of what I see here is not a legitimate complaint, but rather someone not getting his or her own way, thus wanting to crap all over the person they have the dispute with. I think YT has a responcibility to monitor and correct this, failure to do so may be their own dawnfall.

Hugh, if you wish for your email to be "unhidden", simply post it in your ad or post.

Here's mine:

bigcoulee@hotmail.com

So now someone can contact me without using the goofy email system.

(Using a "disposable" email address means if I start to get a lot of spam, I can abandon it, and create a new one. Surprisingly, though, I have used this address for about 5 years in open forums, and have very little spam beyond what MSN's spam filters trap.)

Bob: Like you I've never hidden my address in over 5 years now. I realize and understand all you are saying. The problem here is not my own e address but those who place adds in photo classifieds. The system is not working.

You see folks wanted this added security of the YT generated e mail. My question is and still has not been answered, are the people who place these adds actually getting the e mail. Funny way to try and sell something, advertize and have someone else select you potential customers.

hugh, i have to disagree with you on your opinion of this forum.i dont know everyone in this hobby and when it comes to buying or selling something i cant afford problems financially. i will look up sellers on this site before making a decision to purchase something out of state or far away.i had a problem last year that almost cost me quite a lot of money with a check i got for a tractor.if i would have looked at this site someone else had a similar problem with this guy . i only looked at the follow up forum after i had trouble, but will look first here from now on. if someone is getting undue bad follow up i have not seen it yet.

Russ: I quite agree on a matter like a check, the facts are quite easily documented. You should therefor satisfy yourself, that you have received payment in good funds for the item.

My comments were mainly directed at folks buying tractors 30+ years old, sight unseen, then craping all over the seller when everything on tractor did work as new. I only have one piece of advice for these folks, if you can't afford to loose money you shouldn't be buying tractors sight unseen. Both buyers and sellers will miss some items wrong.
