I will just add my two cents here and say I think you have both had your say. I can say this much after purchasing many tractors over the years, some sight unseen, WHEN YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING LIKE A FIFTY YEAR OLD TRACTOR WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT, OR HAVING SOMEONE YOU TRUST CHECK IT OUT, YOU ARE TAKING A CHANCE! Every one has thier own opinion and idea of the shape and condition of an item that they have for sale. I believe typically when buying through pictures and conversation via email and telephone, the purchaser really wants to believe what they hear, and have higher than realistic expectations. On the other side, the seller may omit, or "sell" the tractor rather than being extremely clear about it. The seller wants to sell and the buyer wants to buy. EBAY has really educated many people on this over the past few years! All that being said, I purchased a John Deere R from Vern that was advertised here a few months ago. He was clear on the condition of the tractor. I had to ask many specific questions, as this was a parts tractor for me, and I wanted to make sure the pony turned over. He went out and verified that it did. He said the only things missing from the tractor was the pony magneto and the starter for the pony - that was true. He said the rear fenders were in good shape - they were excellent and probably worth more than I paid for the whole tractor! I was very pleased and just wanted to say so again. I have no connection to Vern, except that I have purchased a tractor from him. I wish all tractor transactions could go as well as mine did, but I have had my share of bad deals in the past, buying sight unseen, and would like to think I have learned my lesson, but when you see something you really want..... ..I seem to take more risks!!! Sorry for rambling, any questions on my dealings with vern, just email me! Masse1@aol.comThanks, Bob
