All this makes me scared to do business with anyone here.....
and to think that I came to the right place to find a nice shiney red cub tractor to work a couple of acres.
One would think that a group of guys who are all into the same hobby would help each other out and not burn each other so badly. The disrespect level is amazing, and makes me wary of the whole process.
As much as I have always wanted a nice cub, it might be better to simply pay the more money and buy a new tractor from a reputable dealer, get the warranty, and all the bells and whistles.
All this stress and animosity I am reading is not worth it!

On the flip side, some years back I was involved with restoring military vehicles. I never had any trouble, and people really tried to help each other out and point out good deals. I guess I am just too naive about my expectations.
I still believe a man is only a man if he is true to his word, and that if he gives his word and a handshake he gives his honor.
I am not reading about honorable dealings very much.

I will just add my two cents here and say I think you have both had your say. I can say this much after purchasing many tractors over the years, some sight unseen, WHEN YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING LIKE A FIFTY YEAR OLD TRACTOR WITHOUT LOOKING AT IT, OR HAVING SOMEONE YOU TRUST CHECK IT OUT, YOU ARE TAKING A CHANCE! Every one has thier own opinion and idea of the shape and condition of an item that they have for sale. I believe typically when buying through pictures and conversation via email and telephone, the purchaser really wants to believe what they hear, and have higher than realistic expectations. On the other side, the seller may omit, or "sell" the tractor rather than being extremely clear about it. The seller wants to sell and the buyer wants to buy. EBAY has really educated many people on this over the past few years!
All that being said, I purchased a John Deere R from Vern that was advertised here a few months ago. He was clear on the condition of the tractor. I had to ask many specific questions, as this was a parts tractor for me, and I wanted to make sure the pony turned over. He went out and verified that it did. He said the only things missing from the tractor was the pony magneto and the starter for the pony - that was true. He said the rear fenders were in good shape - they were excellent and probably worth more than I paid for the whole tractor! I was very pleased and just wanted to say so again. I have no connection to Vern, except that I have purchased a tractor from him. I wish all tractor transactions could go as well as mine did, but I have had my share of bad deals in the past, buying sight unseen, and would like to think I have learned my lesson, but when you see something you really want..... ..I seem to take more risks!!! Sorry for rambling, any questions on my dealings with vern, just email me! Masse1@aol.com

Thanks, Bob

It is not the fact about it being a 50 year old tractor it is the fact that he did not describe it right. You bought a PARTS tractor. There is not much a seller can misrepresent on a parts tractor. We bought a running tractor from him and got a tractor with a hole in the block. He has never explained to me why it had a hole in the block and I will continue to ask until I get an answer.

To you Pat Mossit, you were told of the condition of this tractor, you were also told that if I didn't get my price for it, than I was restoring it. At that point you told me you wanted it for a winter project. You were also told that this 80 had not run for approx 7 years, you were told about the sheet metal, the clutch, the engines, the nose cone and anything else that I or anybody else had seen. Three years ago I bought a supposibly running styled AR JD from Patrick(similar to the ones that he's gotten replies on if you look on page 7). He told me the tractor was next to perfect and in good running cond. Unfortunatey the perfect running tractor wasn't the one I got. It wouldn't start or run, we had it in the shop, filling the rad was like filling a watering can, manifold was cracked, muffler was burnt out, lites and battery covers missing. These are just a few things I remember. I never once called Patrick, I should have gone and looked myself. Now he takes a "winter projest" from me and its all bad. Wonder what he plans to be when he grows up. Thanks for letting me set this straight!!!

Since you brought three years ago, we still have not received an answer why you never told us about the hole in the block of the 4010 standard we bought from you. It was patched with JB Weld, not welded, just JB Weld. The new bearings in the shifter worn out within 50 hours. Also when it is parked it has three buckets under it to collect all the oil that runs out of it. Why not answer straight up instead of saying go here or there and read this or that. If you hold grudges against others, and you do not want people to treat you like you treat them, you might think twice before you buy something from anybody that knows your name, because according to you it will be ok to take them for what they took you for. Before you go and say anything about we knew what we bought, we have the ad that we bought it from.

From Vern post I see that he is not giving all of the ""INFO "" again. He had a 430 for sale,I called him and asked about it.He asked if I had a styled AR as he had a sale for one.which I did.We met at a truck stop at Winnipeg Manitoba, looked at each others tractors and I paid him in cash the diffence from the AR to the 430 in cash.and we both went home.If you did not like what you saw ,then it should have been a no deal. You can not come all 3 years later and say it was not it was to be as You looked it over before we made the switch.I do the 2cylinders as a hobby.I do not have to sell a tractor so I can pay my fuel account at the end of the week,When I was asked to wire the funds it should have been flags up for myself.I can not please everybody all of the time ,some of them you will never please no matter what a person will do.As for the statment about that what you and everybody else had seen on the 80.I do not know how I could see a weld or crack on the back side of the axle on the y piece or on the stering shaft,on the draw bar frame,or the aircleaner, cltch plate, etc,The only one that would have seen it it the person that was taking the picture.God knows the truth.Patrick

You should have said something then not 3 years later.I have tried to make things right when I find out about a tractor when they let me know.which is the right thing to do but you have decide to make me out to be the one that is in the wrong.I do not see it that way,I know for a fact I asked several times about cracks or welds and I was told there was none.I know what the facts are and what was listed in the ad here on this site.I will rest my case in court.Patrick

You need not fear Patrick, I called you maybe 3 times in the last 7 years, twice only to see if another fellow could get on your load, NEVER will any of my tractors go on your load. Incidently I had someone (who you very well know) over here on Saturday Nov 26. I told him about this whole situation, he laughed and said "does he expect warranty on a 50 year old tractor'? I also said, I know Patrick quite well and know about the stunts he's pulled off. Now you heard the rest of the story, Vern

I never asked for or expected warranty on this 50 year old tractor.do not try and change the story "AGain"...I only expected the tractor to be in the condition that was outlined.I will not comment on the""Storys""".I just look at were they are coming from.
